Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)

Introduction:
The Borivli Education Society’s Matushri Pushpaben Vinubhai Valia College of Commerce is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic and work environment. We follow a strict Zero Tolerance Policy towards sexual harassment in any form and are dedicated to upholding dignity, equality, and respect for all individuals.
In accordance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and UGC Regulations (2015), the college has established the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to handle complaints related to sexual harassment. The ICC provides a fair, impartial, and confidential platform for addressing such complaints.
Objective:

  • Promote awareness and sensitivity regarding gender issues and sexual harassment.
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, and dignified workplace and learning environment.
  • Provide an accessible, fair, and confidential grievance redressal mechanism.
  • Uphold gender equality through impartial inquiry and timely resolution of complaints.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and programs on gender sensitization and women’s rights.

Functions:

  1. Complaint Handling:
    Receive and address complaints related to unwelcome behavior such as physical contact, demands for sexual favors, sexually explicit remarks, or any verbal, non-verbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
  2. Confidential Inquiry:
    Conduct a fair, impartial, and confidential inquiry into complaints, ensuring both the complainant and respondent have an opportunity to be heard.
  3. Support to Complainants:
    Provide necessary support, guidance, and protection to the complainant, ensuring they do not face retaliation or victimization.
  4. Recommend Action:
    Recommend appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with college rules and relevant laws, based on the inquiry findings.
  5. Awareness Programs:
    Organize regular workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on gender sensitization, prevention of sexual harassment, and women’s rights.
  6. Maintain Records:
    Keep strict confidentiality of all complaints, inquiry reports, actions taken, and ensure proper documentation for future reference and compliance.
  7. Legal Compliance:
    Ensure that all processes comply with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, UGC Regulations (2015), and university/college policies.

Who Can Approach the ICC:
Any aggrieved woman, including:

  • Female employees (Teaching and Non-Teaching staff).
  • Enrolled female students.
  • Female visitors on the college campus.
